Making Plans...

June 12, 2016

Where do you begin when starting your travel plans???

We knew we were spending 3 weeks in Colombia but this soon turned into us travelling around South America; Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. And we were soooooo excited. As Danielle lives in the UK first thing on the agenda was booking a flight to Colombia, this was a lot cheaper than we were expecting. We always search sites like Sky Scanner and Expedia, play around we the dates and make sure we're getting the best deal we can. So from Manchester to Bogota via Istanbul with Turkish Airways was only 460 GBP return and so our plans began!!!

Finding a route...

Next was planning a route and making sure we had some kind of plan of which direction we are going to head. So how did we find our route? Dani knows Colombia so it was easy for her to put a route together there but apart from the typical tourist magnets, like Machu Picchu and Christ the Redeemer, we wanted to find those spots that weren't so overcrowded with backpackers. So we started to search the web; blogs, Lonely Planet, TripAdvisor. South America is a popular backpacker’s location so there is plenty of advice and tips online. I got a lot of information from some great blogs like Along Dusty Roads and The Blonde Aboard there are plenty of travel blogs out there to give you lots of advice depending on what destination you have chosen. Of course we downloaded the South America Lonely Planet guide and we are still making our way through it. Well Danielle is, Dani just decides to sleep instead!!!! Of course there are lots of online apps that can help you plan but we like pen and paper, we bought a notebook, printed maps and started our plans. Now if like us you like the pen and paper way then you have to buy a FriXion Pen, this pen has changed Danielle's life...it’s a pen that you can erase!!!!! yes erase!!!! your plans are going to change so you need to be able to erase and rewrite!!! Get the pen :)

Where to stay...

We have booked a few hotels before we arrive for a couple of reasons really, firstly as they were good deals and secondly so we don't have to worry so much when we get there. We use Booking.com a lot!!! But there are other opinions Airbnb and Hostel world both you can grab some great deals. Danielle doesn't like making on the spot decisions in fact we're both rubbish at it so booking just before arriving in a destination is a good way for us to travel but we know some of you will like to just turn up and see what you can find. We also take suggestions for other travelers who have stayed in the area then at least you know your getting an honest review. So depending on what your budget is depends on what time of place your going to stay. As we don't have a date we have to stop travelling we want to be sensible with our hotels/hostels at the minute we are planning on staying in pirate rooms in hostel but as our money disappears this may change. I'm sure we will let you know.

Changing your mind...

So far our plans have changed three times already!!! (this is where the FriXion pen came in handy) It's OK to change your mind and jiggle things around, we haven't started yet and we're already on our 3rd plan. We know that this will happen a lot once we have started travelling, that's the exciting bit. This is where Booking.com comes in handy, most of the hotels come with a free cancellation policy withing a certain amount of days, so if you like booking ahead of time like us then this site is for you.

Our Journey...

Our journey starts on the 6th July and we can't wait. the first stop is Colombia for 3 weeks, Dani's home country where we will be visiting Cali, Santa Marta, Cartagena and much more. Follow us on our journey, we're sure that we will keep you entertained and you'll pick up some ideas along the way.

Goodbye

&

Bon Voyage
